French startup Atmosgear has developed the world’s first electric inline skates. The skates are operated by a handheld remote control, with a maximum speed of 25 km/h. The skates were invented for daily commutes, such as work travels or leisure. They are set to become the next big thing among electric scooters and bikes.
Atmosgear skates contain a hub motor capable of lifting 150 kg uphill, and regenerative braking allows you to recover up to 15% autonomy while moving downhill. Recharging is also possible through a waist pack containing a waterproof case with the battery and the controller. The case weighs 1 kg and has two ‘Plug & Play connectors’, and the waist pack can be used normally when you are not skating. The battery lasts for over 32 kilometres. They are available in three colours; yellow, black and white and cost €500.
The startup came about in 2018, after the inspiration came from ‘Air Gear’, a Japanese Anime show where characters were riding electric skates. The founder is Mohamed Soliman, who is also an inline skater and an engineer. Soliman’s ambitions became unstoppable, and the team quickly grew from a solo founder to five members with two engineers, a web developer, a designer and a CMO. Atmosgear’s goal is to sell +100,000 pairs worldwide by 2026, while establishing a market in the USA & South Asia. Furthermore, they wish to create a new recognised sport with live-streaming competitions and become a micro-mobility leader.
