Zürich-based health tech startup Oviva combines healthcare with innovative technology, giving users access to the best diet and lifestyle advice. Ranging from 11 programmes aimed to support a range of health conditions, including pre-diabetes, type 2 diabetes, weight management, and adult and paediatric nutrition. Oviva offers personalised coaching via an app as well as access to local dietitians. With a user-friendly programme, Oviva creates a unique health journey through a supportive team with one-on-one remote coaching sessions and access to weight management groups led by experienced specialists.
Exploring a new way of digitising treatment, co-founders Kai Eberhardht, Manuel Baumann, and Mark Jenkins founded Oviva in 2014. Their idea behind the app was to empower everyone to change their eating and lifestyle habits and improve long-term health benefits through an online-based presence. With a growing platform, Oviva signed its first contract with a health insurance provider in Switzerland and expanded into the UK in 2015. In 2016, they completed their first round of funding and received $800,000.
With four locations in Switzerland, United Kingdom, Germany, and France and raising a total of $127.5 million in funding over 5 rounds. Their latest funding was raised $80 million on August 31, 2021, from a series C round. Planning to scale its technology and make it more accessible to a wider range of people by growing its team to 800 employees by the end of 2022. Their vision is to support one million active patients to live healthier and happier lives in 2025 through the development of their app services and programmes. The scale-up aims to use the money raised from funding to continue to develop, establishing its place in the European market.
Cofounder and CEO Kai Eberhardt states in the Swiss Preneur show podcast, “we are the partner of the patient for the rest of their life…they are not always actively with us, it’s intermixed,” with the goal of being remotely available whatever stage in the patient’s health journey. Oviva aims to be a lifelong online community, growing and offering support to patients at all times.
